Born in a small village in northern Hesse, Michael Volland entered the digital industry early on through his own startups. In 2002, he founded xplace GmbH, a first mover in the field of digital signage and in-store solutions, which later became part of the Media-Saturn Group. Building the company during this time shaped his understanding of emerging markets and strengthened his ability to establish sustainable structures.
From 2019 to 2025, he was co-founder and managing director of REALTALE GmbH in Hanover. With the VAUND brand, he introduced an innovative retail-as-a-service concept and developed flagship stores and shop-in-shop formats – for example with Breuninger, Engelhorn, L&T and Lodenfrey.
Michael Volland now brings this experience into his new role at dimedis.
For 25 years, my professional passion has been for brick-and-mortar retail: as a service provider supporting digital customer journeys at the point of sale, as a retailer with a retail-as-a-service business model, and now – back to the roots – as part of the dimedis team. I’m really looking forward to contributing to dimedis’ success story and helping shape data-driven customer experiences at the POS.
Outside of work, Volland is a well-rounded individual. He enjoys spending time with his family, is passionate about road cycling, and is a regular runner.
An excellent opportunity to meet the new Director of Sales in person will be at the connect circle, taking place from September 25 – 26, 2025, in Cologne.
