International Women's Day: Why we need more women in IT
International Women's Day reminds us how important visible role models are in the tech industry. That's why we're giving some of our female colleagues the opportunity to share what inspires them about IT.
Every year, International Women’s Day reminds us that equality is still not a given. This is particularly evident in the tech industry. According to a study by Bitkom, women currently make up just 18 percent of the workforce in German tech companies.
We also realize that we still have a long way to go. At the same time, we see that change is possible. With women making up 35.1 percent of our total team, we are already well above the industry average and are continuously working to further strengthen diversity.
Because one thing is clear: innovation arises where different perspectives come together.
Diversity as Part of Corporate Culture
In the product and development sector in particular, the proportion of women across the industry remains low. At our company, it currently stands at 18.2 percent. This makes it all the more important for us to make women in technical roles visible and to promote them in a targeted manner. How our Teams develop
In our development teams, we experience every day how valuable different perspectives are. People with different backgrounds and ways of thinking work together to develop complex digital solutions.
For our Process Coach and Product Owner Maren Seufert, this is precisely what makes her work so fascinating:
What excites me about development is getting to the heart of complex problems and actively shaping solutions. By asking targeted questions, questioning things in a structured way, and incorporating different perspectives, we can build a shared understanding and come up with solutions that create real added value. Different experiences and perspectives mean that assumptions are questioned more often, user situations are considered more broadly, and solutions are developed in a more holistic way.
Software Development as a Creative Mental Exercise
For our software developer Inga Fischer, software development also combines analytical thinking with creative problem solving:
For me, software development is like a big brain teaser. I break down complex requirements into small logical building blocks and translate them into code. Especially in front-end development, you can see the results immediately: abstract thoughts suddenly turn into something visible. Women bring just as much analytical thinking, curiosity, and enjoyment of clean code to the table. I hope that more women will have the confidence to pursue this path. The world of software is a pretty cool place for curious minds.
Coding between Analysis and Creativity
Our software developer Maike Kahmann also particularly values the combination of analytical thinking and practical implementation:
I am fascinated by topics such as algorithms and the ability to understand exactly why something works. Coding combines this analytical thinking with the opportunity to devise new approaches and put ideas into practice. A team of women and men broadens the scope for generating ideas and expands horizons. In software development in particular, solutions benefit when different perspectives come together.
